Prolozone: What Is It & Why Should I Know About It?

Posted on

PROLOZONE THERAPY.
Does it sound too new-age?
Are you wondering if it’s just the newest trend on the market?
Or maybe you’ve heard about it and it just seems to good to be true.
Whatever it is, we understand!
The word “prolozone” itself may never have been in your vocabulary before now and you may
be a little curious or even skeptical of what it really is.
It’s very logical to wonder these things!

But what if we told you that ozone therapy:

  • Has been around for over 100 years to rid pain
  • Was once used extensively in western hospitals until the 1930s (when big
pharmaceutical companies introduced synthetic pain medication and money became
    involved)
  • and is currently a prominent way of prevention and avoidance of surgery in other
countries – particularly in Germany, Italy, Russia, and Spain

We’re here to let you know – it’s true!

Prolozone may sound too “out-there” for you right now, but after reading this article we hope that
you gain a new understanding on this tried and true pain therapy and perspective on if it could
provide a new hope for you.

What is Prolozone Therapy?

Prolozone therapy is a pain treatment where the root cause issues are addressed at a cellular level.

This means that pain is not simply masked by a treatment or medication to reduce or eliminate symptoms, but is actually treated for healing and curing.

Prolozone therapy focuses on fixing the actual problem that is inducing pain rather than concealing it.

How does Prolozone Therapy work?

Even though prolozone therapy has been around for more than 40 years, it’s still exciting to think about how this technique works.

The root cause of most pain is inflammation. Whether through a sports injury, diet, family history, etc. prolozone therapy works to decrease and eliminate this inflammation.

It is implemented by injecting ozone (which is energized oxygen) into a specific area of pain such as, but not limited to:

  • joints
  • tendons
  • muscles
  • trigger points

or infused into the bloodstream for overall body pain and to improve the immune system.

QUICK INSIGHT! Contrary to what we may think, this ozone is not the same as the ozone we hear about regarding our environment. Environmental ozone is produced from toxic gases (think smog), while prolozone therapy ozone is generated from pure, medical grade oxygen that breaks up the molecule in a generator.

Once prolozone is injected, it converts into molecules that work in several different ways to address the root cause of pain. Prolozone primarily works to:

  • signal the body to begin repairing itself
  • provide needed oxygen and nutrients to the cells
  • kill pathogens (bacteria, virus, and fungi)
  • removes free radicals
  • restores the chemical balance in your cells

This ozone increases stem cell production and can regenerate cartilage in many people.

How?

By reducing that inflammation we briefly discussed above and allowing cells to restore balance.

Who can benefit from Prolozone Therapy?

Many people!

Anyone with chronic or acute pain that is seeking treatment outside of pharmaceutical medication and/or surgery may benefit from prolozone.

Specifically, those with conditions* such as:

  • arthritis
  • lower back pain
  • knee pain
  • shoulder pain
  • tendinitis/tennis elbow
  • muscle tension
  • rotator cuff pain

could find relief and healing with prolozone therapy.

*Keep in mind that some injuries may not be able to be helped with prolozone and may require surgery.

What should I expect when receiving Prolozone Therapy?

When working with Jordan Bernard, APRN, FNP-C, who is specifically trained in prolozone therapy, a treatment plan is put into place and typically consists of:

  1. Meeting with Jordan to discuss pain and review any images such as CT scans, MRIs, etc. that may be available.
  2. Initial treatment of injection of the ozone gas into the pain area (or into bloodstream for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and auto-immune disorders).
  3. Second treatment of injection performed 2 weeks after the initial treatment.
  4. Third treatment injection approximately one to two months later, depending on response.

For pain relief, symptoms decrease almost immediately and relief peaks around 48-72 hours later. Pain may return at first, but it should not be as strong as before the treatment.

Prolozone therapy’s goal is to significantly reduce pain or to eliminate it altogether by rejuvenating cellular structure. This is our goal as well!
